Sewing

baby clothingDid you mom ever sew?  Mine sewed all our baby clothing and then through most of our teens.  I used to hate it.  Then I got to buy something off the rack!! yeah!!  It was horrible.  I had no idea I had a personal custom tailor at home.  Of course by then she went to work and sewing wasn’t a priority.  She had the gall to think I had to learn how.

Well I learned how.  It’s been an,uh experience.  Babies and toddlers are much easier to sew for.  Men’s pants are impossible and women, some anyway, have too many curves.  Men shirts are okay, but for the most part, I’d rather crochet.  I find crocheting soothing, whereas sewing can be murder on your mood.

Spice up a shower

onesies

Between the ages of 25 and 35, women go to countless baby showers. At each shower, they pat the pregnant friend’s belly, “ooh” and “ahh” over cute blue or pink gifts, and eat cake – the same old deal every time. Before you buy another baby-wipe warmer or cloth duck, consider going a different direction for your gift to spice up the next shower. Your pregnant friend will have all the pink and blue onesies she could ever need for her baby – make her laugh with a onesie that says, “Do I pass the sniff test?” or “Got Mammaries?”

There are plenty of unique onesies out there that’ll ensure your next shower is anything but boring. Replace a “Mommy’s little angel” onesie with “Daddy’s little tax deduction” and get ready for laughter and compliments.

baby teesAnother day another diaper.  I remember wanting to save the planet by using cloth diapers.  They sagged, bagged and geez it was fun rinsing them out.  It was impossible to find baby tees that would cover all the bulk.

One day I cam home from work and the washer was filled to the top with extra hot, bleach filled diapers.  And, of course, the washer died right there.  Needless to say, I told my wife - disposable only and start potty trraining NOW!  Okay I was a little hasty, he was only 2 months old at that time.

baby onzies

baby onziesWhen I had my first baby shower I was so sad.  All the clothes were for 9 months or older.  I had to go out and buy my own baby onzies for my baby.  Yes, they grow out of them impossibly fast, but they are amazing keepsakes.  It means so much to me to look at my baby’s newborn onzie and then you really remember - much better than a picture.

It’s real life staring you in the face.  I love newborns.  It was hard but some of the best times in my life was waking up at 2am, the house all quiet and just you and your little one wrapped in a blanket nursing and feeling more love than you think your heart can hold.  Men miss out on so much!
